Bring a list of questions, check the records and take notes. Review anything unanswered before deciding to buy.

Before the viewing
Save the advert and make a short list of anything that needs explaining. Ask for the registration and check the official vehicle details, MOT history and recall information. GOV.UK brings those checks together in its used-vehicle guide.
Questions for the seller
- How long have you had the car, and why are you selling it?
- What service records and receipts are available?
- Which keys, charging cables or accessories come with it?
- Are there any known faults or unfinished repairs?
- Can I arrange an independent inspection?
Check space, seating and controls
Adjust the driving position. Try the boot with the things you normally carry. Check that your passengers can get in comfortably. Work through the controls while parked, rather than trying to learn everything during a short test drive.
After the viewing
Write down unanswered questions while they are fresh. Compare the car against your needs, not just the other cars you saw that afternoon. If something about its condition or paperwork is unclear, get independent help before committing.
Should I decide at the viewing?
You can take time to review your notes. A viewing is a fact-finding step, and leaving without buying is a valid outcome.
